CGOGMC featured in Capital Pride’s virtual parade

Just in time for Fierté Capital Pride, le Chœur gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus (CGOGMC), the National Capital Region’s gay community chorus, proudly presents its first virtual performance, “One Song” (words by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, music by Marvin Hamlisch, arranged by Mark Hayes).

Although COVID-19 has forced us to cancel in-person rehearsals and concerts, we are determined to keep on singing, inspire inclusion, acceptance, and pride, and build a stronger, more united 2SLGBTQQIA community, just as we have for the past 34 years.  “One Song” does just that.

As the world unites to fight the COVID-19 virus, our performance brings audiences a powerful message of love, peace and unity through an inspiring interpretation of Hamlisch’s soulful and uplifting ballad.

The video, which is available on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_xfjsqOF_o was also featured in Fierté Capital Pride’s virtual parade on Sunday, August 30, 2020.

As we plan an exciting online fall term, we look forward to welcoming new and former members from far and wide. Stay tuned for details!

Happy Pride!

CGOGMC Keeps on Singing!

As we continue to navigate these unprecedented times, we are determined to keep on singing for our community. We can’t wait to share our first virtual performance during Pride. Stay tuned for details!

As in-person rehearsals and performances are on hold for now, our 34th season will certainly be different, but it will also be innovative and exciting. Stay tuned for announcements in the coming weeks!

Like many other ensembles we miss you, our patrons and friends. Every year we count on you for your support; in fact, we can’t do it without you. Please consider donating to the Chorus at: CanadaHelps. Your generosity will help us realize an ambitious and unique 34th season.

As August is Pride month in the National Capital Region, we wish each of you a very Happy Pride!

Statement Concerning COVID-19 – Updated

Statement Concerning COVID-19  – Updated

The Board of Directors of Le Chœur Gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus (CGOGMC) would like to update our supporters, followers, friends and family on the steps the chorus has taken to keep our members and our audiences safe in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier the Board had announced a temporary cancellation of rehearsals, the cancellation of our spring Cabaret, and the postponement of our spring concert to June. Unfortunately, given the City of Ottawa’s decision to prolong the closure of city-managed facilities until the end of June and the continued risk that COVID-19 poses to our membership and our friends, family, and supporters, the Board has decided to postponethe spring 2020 concert, “CGOGMC Goes to the Movies!” to next year

As disappointing as this decision may be, the Board is excited to announce a few key dates set for CGOGMC’s 2020-2021 season:

  • Open rehearsals for new and returning members – September 9, 2020
  • Cabaret 11 – October 9, 2020
  • Holiday concert – Oh What Fun! – December 6, 2020 (tentative)
  • Open rehearsals for new and returning members – January 6, 2021
  • Spring concert – CGOGMC Goes to the Movies! – May 8, 2021 (tentative)

Finally, the chorus wishes to thank you for your generous support over the past year. Community-based choruses such as ours depend on your continued support so that we keep on singing! You may make donations at: CanadaHelps. As registered charity, the CGOGMC issues tax receipts for all donations over $3.

Looking forward to singing for you again soon!

In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube and check our website for regular updates.

Statement on COVID-19

Statement Concerning COVID-19, March 20, 2020

Le Chœur Gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus (CGOGMC), like everyone else in our community, is taking COVID-19 very seriously.  With that in mind, the Board of Directors of the CGOGMC would like to update our supporters, followers, friends and family on the steps the chorus has taken to keep our members and our audiences safe.

First, in line with recommendations from health officials, the chorus is taking an initial three-week break from rehearsals.  During this time chorus members are encouraged to practise social distancing to help “flatten the curve.”

While the chorus may not be meeting to rehearse during the three-week period, we are encouraging chorus members can keep practising their music. After all, practice makes perfect!

Second, the board cancelled one of our favourite fundraisers, the spring cabaret, which was scheduled to take place on March 20, 2020.  We hope everyone who was planning to perform or attend can join us in October for our fall cabaret (date to be confirmed).

Third, given the interruption of regular rehearsals and the uncertainty surrounding the current public health crisis, the board has decided to push back our spring concert, “CGOGM Goes to the Movies” to mid-June (date to be confirmed). While we are all disappointed with the postponement, the great selection of songs from the movies along with the additional rehearsal time, promise to make our spring concert one of our best concerts yet!
