CGOGMC Goes to the Movies

After such a festive and successful return to in-person concerts last December, the Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus cannot wait to present our 2022 spring concert: CGOGMC Goes to the Movies. This bilingual concert will be a fun collection of songs that have been featured in the cinema, and are deeply meaningful to our community.

This concert is also very special for CGOGMC, as it marks the beginning of our new home venue for our concerts: The Gladstone Theatre. This exciting move would not have been possible without the generous financial support of TD Bank.

We’re back to performing in person!

The Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus is thrilled with the attendance at its first in-person concert in over two years. Not only were we able to finally sing in-person, but we also had St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church at near capacity. We were overwhelmed by the support and warm words from our friends, family, and guests.

Our holiday concert, A Winter Faerie, featured a multilingual program. It included a beautiful piece in Swedish (Jul, jul, strålande Jul) — and contemporary pieces as well as traditional songs that emphasized being connected, surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones.  Something we all needed after being socially distant for so long.

If you would like to join the Chorus, we will have open rehearsals in January on Wednesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm at St John the Evangelist Anglican Church. We look forward to meeting new choristers as we prepare a new repertoire for our spring concert: CGOGMC Goes to the Movies!

Back to in-person singing!

After nearly 18 months, CGOGMC is thrilled to be singing together again, in person! We are now halfway through the season and we are very excited with the repertoire our Artistic and Musical Director, Tim Piper, has selected for our holiday concert: A Winter Faerie.

CGOGMC is keeping the health and safety of our members front and centre as we return to in-person singing. Choristers are all vaccinated, complete a Covid-19 screening before entering the rehearsal hall, are required to wear a mask throughout the rehearsal, and maintain physical distancing in the rehearsal space.

Stay tuned for more updates about our holiday concert, which is planned for early December. A Winter Faerie, a multilingual program, features modern/contemporary pieces as well as traditional songs that focus on being home, surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones — precisely what we all need after social distancing for so long.

CGOGMC featured in Capital Pride’s virtual parade

Just in time for Fierté Capital Pride, le Chœur gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus (CGOGMC), the National Capital Region’s gay community chorus, proudly presents its first virtual performance, “One Song” (words by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, music by Marvin Hamlisch, arranged by Mark Hayes).

Although COVID-19 has forced us to cancel in-person rehearsals and concerts, we are determined to keep on singing, inspire inclusion, acceptance, and pride, and build a stronger, more united 2SLGBTQQIA community, just as we have for the past 34 years.  “One Song” does just that.

As the world unites to fight the COVID-19 virus, our performance brings audiences a powerful message of love, peace and unity through an inspiring interpretation of Hamlisch’s soulful and uplifting ballad.

The video, which is available on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_xfjsqOF_o was also featured in Fierté Capital Pride’s virtual parade on Sunday, August 30, 2020.

As we plan an exciting online fall term, we look forward to welcoming new and former members from far and wide. Stay tuned for details!
